My Jewel Box Top Donation

The latest news on the fire is encouraging...they expect to have it 100% contained (surrounded) soon, and while the number of homes that were destroyed is devastating, it turns out it's probably 48 residences lost not the 60-70 we'd been hearing initially.

I won 29 of these blocks in a Block Lotto on the About.com forum a couple of summers ago. I remembered about them today on my way home from a wedding in Portland, but had forgotten that I'd already sewed the blocks into rows, and even had begun to join the rows together. Yay!

I need to make one block to complete the center, then join the 3 sections and add a border. I will probably just add black to frame it, and then add a scrappy binding to echo the colors used in the center. Update 8/25/12: I finished the top and uploaded the new picture.

Hoping the first of the packages my friends from About.com will arrive this week...I've received pledges for an amazing ELEVEN finished quilts, plus 14 tops and a number of house blocks and orphan blocks as well. I'm so amazed at the generosity everyone has shown!!
